04:11 am - Scope yourself out! + ascendants/descendants
so, it's 4 in the morning and what am i doing? i'm writing. my mom and step-dad are here snoring like chain saws and what better way to get some piece (aside from the obvious SLEEPING) but to sit in my closet and blog about astrology on my humming macbook.

astrology is one of my greatest passions- other than steaming up some lattes- and i love that i turned into a 'dear abby.' i love answering questions on signs, planets, all that nerdy stuff- so ask away!

one of my e-friends on LJ asked me what her ascending is and it's such an important thing to know. what many people don't look into however, is their DESCENDANT. in a nutshell, your descendant is supposed to be your ideal match...that i'm not 100% convinced on, but counterpoints/opposites definitely play a role in your love life. i've whipped up a little list here that tells you what your descendent is (you must know your rising):

if your rising sign is...

aries= libra
taurus= scorpio
gemini= cancer
cancer= capricorn
leo= aquarius
virgo= pisces
libra= aries
scorpio= taurus
sagittarius= gemini
capricorn= cancer
aquarius= leo
pisces= virgo

now like i said, some astrologers say that your desc. is your true soul mate. i sort of got the short end of the stick here, having gotten a taurus...(i've had 4 taurus boyfriends so far and they've ALL been the same. but unfortunately, in my experience, they've been the only sign that has been able to approach me! grrr.) but those earthly grudges aside, i definitely know that pisces/virgo complete each other beautifully- if the virgo is willing to soften up a bit- and a sag/gem is great...actually...now that i look at it...i can see a lot of love with these couplings...hmm...

ok, i'm going to attempt sleep before i keel over.

12:57 pm - the hiding scorpio...
i've had a lot of people ask me what their ascendent sign is and when it is most evident in one's life. through my own self-examination, i've found that your ascendent is most obvious in the working environment. it makes total sense! here i was, stressing about not being "understood" by my coworkers while all the while, i was totally looking at it through the wrong astrological lens!

in most of my jobs, people have told me that i may be...
-too emotional
-mysterious
-cold
-cheeky
-hard to read (or absolutely transparent)
-too sensitive
-quickly develop and authoritative presence

all these qualities describe virgos and scorpios exactly- which is what i am composed of.

the three most important astrological aspects in a person's chart is their sun, moon, and ascending sign. some may argue that mars and mercury placements should be in there too but that much information just opens up a whole new can or worms.

take a pie for example: there's the pie itself, the golden crust (assuming everything goes well in the baking process) and the yummy sweet/salty center.

using this metaphor, your sun sign is the kind of pie you are- what's listed on the menu, when the hostess tells her guests what she made. if it's blueberry, people will have expectations for a sweet center. mainly, it's what foreshadows the pie itself- without having seen the final presentation.

your rising sign would be the crust- what people see first, what shows whether or not the pie looks appetizing to the guests. it shows how the guests would expect you to "taste" and how people see you at first glance.

your moon sign is the yummy center- when people cut through the warm crust and really get a taste of the real sweetness (or bitterness). sometimes it may be all sugary and sometimes it could totally throw people off and be something they didn't at all expect- like shepherd's pie (heaven forbid it'd be minced- yuck). in that case an example may be a leo sun- which is all about presentation and confidence, and a scorpio moon- which has a bit of a bite to it.

i hope this made a little sense....?

when i found out that my rising sign is scorpio i was both excited and nervous. everyone knows ( or at least everyone in the astrology community) that scorpios, especially scorpio women, are quite a handful. they're either intense, poetry-writing, emotional hemmingways or crazy, erotic, angelina jolies circa 2002.

as i looked into it a bit deeper, i realized that i was one of the most emotionally intense cocktails of the zodiac. i'm a virgo sun, virgo moon, and scorpio rising. wowzer. that is one heavy load.

way too many people get burned from going in the wrong direction, completely unaware of their own free will to go where they can thrive.

12:50 pm - the shift of caps
when i was in high school i dated a capricorn. it was on accident actually. i met him in my economics class and i later found out that when he first saw me he told all the other guys in class that the desk behind mine would be his for the rest of the trimester. now, not surprisingly, this was an especially sexual relationship because (astrology aside) that's usually how teenagers operate. there were things that bothered me but i tolerated them anyway. like how obnoxious he could be in public, how he didn't stand up to shake my mom's hand when he first met her, or how he wanted to preach about life as an eighteen year old. after eight months of dating (this was my first serious relationship) i went to thailand to teach english and came back after four months as an entirely new person. i dumped him literally 24 hours after i got back. call this bitchy, but i was all full of inspiration and passion. the last thing i wanted as to be "taken" by another.

for years i hated caps. the break-up did not end well, as most don't, and i honestly wanted nothing to do with any cap or cap cusp. now recently, i had this very strange dream that i saw a guy playing a guitar on the beach with a cap tattoo on his wrist and he turned to me and said, "fill my cup." being me, i googled this phrase and the first thing that showed up was a link to this musician's myspace. he played the guitar, was a cap, and his most popular song was 'fill my cup.' it's was so crazy that i messaged him on myspace and told him all about it. after a week of emailing each other, we met up. long story short- he was a musician and i was totally swooning. not a good combo. never in my life did i think someone could live up to my expectations like he did.

a cap who was living his dream AND is successful doing so? get out of town!

i immediately consulted my best friend who is a taurus and she told me that he must be an evolved cap. a cap who is not evolved is resistant to emotion, more protective, more fierce and somewhat obnoxious. a cowboy. an evolved cap has gone through some sort of really scaring event and came out of that experience completely aware and in touch with their emotions and ambitions. i'm glad i know they exist.
